Monthful of Adventures

Hi Everyone,

If I have any excuse for not updating this blog the whole of March, its just that the 'young master' had his end of academic year holidays and kept me on my toes all this time. Now that Neil is back at school I can get back to my job of chronicling all the adventures that kept him busy. Our man has achieved his goal of shedding the red 'baby' uniform and wearing the great, green KG 2 uniform.

March began with the flu bug getting Neil down for a couple of days but he was back in action on the 6th for the school annual day and did his Arabic dance with much zip and enthusiasm. (pix of this later) Then it was days of endless masti and quite a bit of teevee too. Neil was also extremely upset for a few days as he had to say goodbye to his best friend Mridul who's moved to India for good. But with Mumma's birthday in the offing, he didn't have much time to mope.He and Daddy did some brainstorming in secret, then went to Plug-ins and kept troubling the shop uncle till they got the pink camera that they were looking for. And believe it or not, Neil kept it secret for three whole days.

Bye Bye Winter

Winter seems to like Dubai a lot this year and so keeps doubling back every few days to make its presence felt. Its putting such a damper on all the fun things that boys like to do, almost all of which begin with getting out of the house and into the sun. When the Shamal winds attacked us again last weekend after two days of crisp sunshine, I had a tough time convincing Neil that Sssshamal is not the name of a huge, dark monster that blows icy wind to scare kids.

Still, we had an impromptu picnic at Za'beel Park on Saturday. We packed our tent, some hotdogs and Neil's new bike and managed to kidnap Misha but Nishu chacha and Simpy chachi followed us all the way and caught us at the park. Both Neil and Misha seemed determined to pack in as much fun into the picnic as possible. One minute they were rolling in the grass and the other, they were both on top of the highest slide. Later, when Misha was busy having some slot machine rides, Neil rode his bike all around the huge play area and came back all drenched in sweat and pride. Neil and Misha had such a great time that on the way back we promised to do this more often in the next few months, or till the weather lets us.

GOD, I'M SOOOO TIRED

What a weekend and a half it's been. It began with Neil eating spinach tart and prawns for dinner on Valentine's Day and it's the best gift he could give me. Much better than the pink velvet rose with a smiley face that he and Daddy got me for Valentines Day, though that was cute too.

Cut to early Friday morning when Daddy was catching up on the zzzs, I was dozing with the newspaper in my hand and Neil was playing with his spy gear set that he has rediscovered. It wasn't a very quiet sort of play and involved hiding and stalking in all the rooms looking for disguised spies and/or robbers. Suddenly from the kitchen came the jingle, jangle, clang, bang of dishes falling on the floor along with shouts of "caught you" and "hands up" from Neil, and followed by, "Mamma I caught a ssssppppyyyyy!!!! Well, the spy turned out to be the saaf saaf uncle (the cleaner) who was talking on his cellphone in telugu.

Friday was also the day for the horse race to which Daddy was invited and could take along Neil but not Mumma. Neil was all for touching the horses if not running with them but was handicapped by the fact that he was stuck far away from the track in a box with Daddy's colleague's kids and had to be on his best behaviour or else...! Though he made up by eating "chicken and chicken and chicken and a little rice".

Next on Neil's agenda was the Mall of the Emirates for some quick toy shopping and some yummy hot chocolate and chocolate cake and chocolate mousse and then we were all set to call it a day so that Daddy could drop us home before heading for the Santana concert. But our man would not hear of being 'dropped home' when Daddy was going to a rock concert. So, we zipped across the city, picking up Daddy's friend Shoodarshan Uncle on the way. All the way, Neil kept spirits up by shouting "let's make some Rrock, let's do some Rrock". Once there, we found a guy who sold us his ticket at a premium because we looked really desperate but thankfully, they let Neil in without a ticket and we entered just as they were beginning with 'Maria Maria'. For the first half an hour, Neil was on Daddy's shoulders dancing, screaming, clapping and rocking with the crowd and loving every minute of it. But soon enough, he got off, made me spread Daddy's jacket on the ground, sat on it, ate six cookies without stopping and slept off in my lap! In the middle of a rock concert with huge speakers blaring music and the crowd screaming and whistling like mad.

ALERT: PIRATES PARTYING HARD!!

>
Here come the pirates

>
And here's the treasure ship

The party goes on...

and on...

Ahhh too much fun...and too much cake

Neil, the pirate, had a blast of a 5th birthday party on December 14, 2007. Of course, initially it was to be a Peter Pan and the pirates party but one little big boy cannot be Peter Pan and Captain Hook at the same time even if it is his own birthday party. So the party turned into a bash for pirates only. The venue was the isolated island of Mcdonalds and everyone came dressed in party clothes to avoid being caught. But once there, the pirate hats and eye patches were out and the treasure ship didn't have a chance of getting away. It was all thanks to the pirate boys and girls who agreed to be a part of the treasure hunting gang. Thanks a ton, everyone!!!

Hi Everyone

I have finally managed to create a blog for that great little adventurer, Neil Prakash. Thanks a lot to his Priya chachi for inspiration and advice. I'm not too hopeful about keeping pace with Neil when updating this blog (he can sometimes have several adventures a day), but I can promise to try my best at recording his adventures, with pictures as evidence.
